YEAH- ME TOO. AND LET ME TELL YOU WHAT. IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THAT.
Pole Dancing is actually really hard- I know- you guys are all thinking, "whaaaaa, Hannah started working at a strip club?!?!"
Makes sense right? Moved to LA to find my dream and got lost in the craziness?
WRONG
I actually got to attend a class at a studio called Jagged !
Jagged, is a cute little collective located right between Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, which specializes in dance, fitness, and aerial classes. One of the classes just so happens to be pole dancing.
Traditionally, one would think that all of the hype about the class is because the women there are super sexy and want to know how to be even more seductive- but in reality, it's a great and fun work out!
The class starts out with a bit of yoga warm-up and abs, since almost everything you do on the pole involves having a solid core.
The instructor for my class was a young, athletic gal- who made everything look so easy. I could only dream to be in a shape similar to hers. But honestly, the class was filled with all different types of bodies, and each excelled at something different.
Each move was given a little instruction and we were sent on our ways to testing the waters ourselves. After a bit of jungle-gyming around the pole, the instructor comes and gives you pointers on things that may help (I needed plenty of those).
The hardest move for myself was one that I feel must be very common- it's called pole dancing.
HAHA
Just kidding, but really the hardest move for me, was one that involved squeezing the pole between your thighs until you stuck with no hands.
My version looked like this. Turns out you have to have muscles to do this.
If you're someone who thinks they can't possibly be good or confident enough to do something like this- you're wrong. Pretty much every girl in there is in the same boat. Everyone was testing it out and having fun, if the move didn't prove to be so graceful. I would start with a beginners class and move up from there!
Believe me- I was like yeahhhhhh
And really just looked like this...
The classes range in packages from a single class at $15 to a package of 12 for $180. If you're anything like me, you'll want to try anything that doesn't seem like fitness before actually putting on shoes and running- and THIS, is something I would recommend!
Try something new!
